Alter Fritz (OUT OF BUSINESS)

Ambrosetti
Visited on June 7, 2008. Rather close to ’Deutsche Oper’ U-bahn.
Nice to stop by K65 on the corner before or after a visit as well.
The shop itself has a good assortment of beers, mainly German of course,
quite a few I haven’t even seen before. Prices very reasonable,
though by far not the cheapest in Berlin. Fairly easy to get to.
Located off the big road, so rather quiet and idyllic location.
Nice scenery and ambience. Good service though too bad you seldom (as here)
see a case or something you can put your beer in while shopping.

Brauerei Eschenbräu
The entrance was a bit wierd with a glass door and a ping-pong table inside.
Some sign asking you to walk around the corner.
We passed some vegetation and mail boxes for the student housings and thought
’what the hell is this place?’
Though when we got there and sat down, boy did we change our minds fast!
Cozy beer garden and a relaxed indoors pub.
The place still feels like it’s packed with students.
Though we didn’t get stared out or anything.
It does open rather late, so plan ahead if you want to visit the place,
also a shame they don’t seem to serve food. Cute girls in the bar on our visit,
that’s always positive. Fast service at the bar, also very nice beers!
I’d say a must visit in Berlin for sure! In ’GBG Germany’ listed as pub 21 in Wedding,
on page 449.

Brauhaus in Rixdorf
Visited June 6, 2008. In ‘GBG Germany’ listed as pub number 15 in Neukölln on page 448.
Didn’t see much of the inside due to a wedding party, though the beer garden was nice
and green with some water as well. No own glasses (Hacker-Pschorr used) or beer coasters
(Paulaner used) but the beers were rather nice. I didn’t eat, but ekstedt’s ‘small’
salad looked rather good to me. Nice fast service.

Brauhaus Lemkes am Schloß (ex-Luisenbräu)
No longer actually called ’Luisen-Bräu’ but has changed into a new Lemke.
Now called ’Brauhaus Lemke am Schloss’. Visited on June 6, 2008.
Very similar to Lemke’s other location. Tried the Brauhaus Alster,
their pils mixed with sprite soda. Also tried the green Berliner Wisse Waldmeister here.
OK service, did not eat. Close to a few fairly big roads with distrubing traffic.
Either go to this or the other Lemke, both is not necessary.

Brauhaus Mitte
In ’GBG Germany’ listed as pub number 11 in Mitte, on page 446.
Located close to Alexanderplatz, the building and it’s sign lloks outside as a rip off
of Planet Hollywood. The sample plate in dark wood is real nice, fits the three regular
house beers, one special and a small bowl of caramel malt for nibbling.
The beers were all OK, not amazing and not bad. Food was plenty and OK,
a bit too dry on the pork nuckel. Our waiter started out refusing to speak English,
but warmed up a little later on. He did seem sto look more comfortable as a bouncer
than a waiter though. English menus available. A bit touristy and not a must see at all.

Brauhaus Spandau
In ’GBG Germany’ listed as pub number 16 in Spandau, on page 448.
It is a bit of a ride to get there, but what a place! Nice idyllic ambience,
close to the river and lots of green vegetation. Fantastic beer garden away from traffic.
Impressive building, nice interior as well. Cool to see not only the brewing equipment,
but also the fermentation room through a glass window. Nice and cute waitress, fast service.
Medium-sized lunsh portions of food. Had the bratwurst with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut,
not excellent, but still nice. The scenery and location is enough for me to recommend a visit,
I’m sure you’ll agree! The Havelbräu Hell and Weissbier available on draught at the time
of our visit on June 6, 2008.

Brauhaus Südstern
Visited June 6, 2008. In ‘GBG Germany’ not listed as a pub, though it is listed in the
breweries section under Kreuzberg on pages 264-265.
Front places outside is too busy of traffic. Restaurant type interior.
Didn’t really go to the back beer garden, though from a distance it looked rather nice.
Didn’t eat. A bit slow service even though it wasn’t busy at all.
The only place where the waiter looked really surprised when we ordered small
(0.3 liter) beers. Also later on he acted a bit weird when taking our orders over the
room behind a stair going down… Seems a band were about to play later on that evening,
though after we decided to leave.

Brewbaker
A bit tricky to get to until I realized it was actually more or less inside the S-bahn building.
Get to Bellevue station and look underneath the railway. Good service, English speaking as well.
Nice clean and warm interior, to the front outside was a bit much traffic,
also fairly annoying with the constans rumble of the S-bahn, but still rather nice.
On our visit quite a bit of wind, not much to do about that though.
Amazing pils, though their experiment brews seems to be more fun than good.
A must visit, if nothing else for their pils! They had three house beers on this day,
also a few commercial macros on bottles. Nice to be able to purchase a sample tray first,
then like we did have a full glass of the best one, which was undoubtedly the pils!
I didn’t try the food, but ekstedt had the cheeze plate that looked good.
If you get the book ’GBG Germany’ this is Berlin pub number 18, in Tiergarten,
on page 449 (2006 edition).

Georgbräu Brauhaus
Visited on June 6, 2008. In ’GBG Germany’ listed as pub number 7 under Mitte on page 445.
Busy by the river, loads of people, lots of small chirping (not in a good way) birds.
Beers were mainly OK. Outside seating felt a bit temporary.
Did not eat though we earlier planned to, since they informed us they were too busy
and the food would take a very long time. Rather slow service and in all felt very touristy.
I can not recommend this place.

Lemkes Spezialitätenbrauerei
Visited on June 5, 2008. In ’GBG Germany’ listed as pub number 8 under Mitte, page 446.
Located in one of the arc’s below the S-Bahn. Looks almost the same inside as Mitte which
we visited just before interior design, menus, sample trey is the same.
Beer is better here though. Also feels cozier, though the frequent S-Bahns above was
quite disturbing. Nice and clean toilets, even for Germany’s high standards.
Service was OK, selcetion rather limited to their own brews. Did not eat.
The sample trey is nice looking and a very good idea.

Lindenbräu Berlin
Visited on June 5, 2008. In ’GBG Germany’ listed as pub number 19 under Tiergarten, page 449.
Inside the Sony Center. The sterling silver brewing kettle is supposed to be one of a kind.
Very cool ambiance though! Worth going for the very cool buiding alone.
Filled up outside beer garden. Not very fast nor very good service. Beers were OK. Did not eat.
*********************************************************
Marcus-Bräu
In ’GBG Germany’ listed as pub number 10 under Mitte, page 446. Visited on June 5, 2008.
A bit cluttered feeling to the design inside, the Veltins sign outside was way more visible
than the brew pub sign. Felt a but boring and quite non-essential.
OK beers, OK service, not more. Did not eat.
*********************************************************
Zum Nussbaum
Visited June 6, 2008. In ‘GBG Germany’ listed as pub number 12 in Mitte on page 447.
Actually a bit hard to find, for us. We weren’t even that drunk.
Well, anyway, once we did walk around the church and found the place it was a nice little
bar to visit and have a few beers. Did not try eating and only visited the outdoors seating.
